Stanley Lemeshow, PhD

Professor of Biostatistics

Bio

Stan Lemeshow is internationally known for his expertise in biostatistics and epidemiology. He has published extensively in the applied and methodological literature and has co-authored three textbooks in the John Wiley & Sons Wiley statistics series: Applied Logistic Regression (the single most cited statistics book in print, now in its 3rd Edition), Applied Survival Analysis (now in its 2nd edition) and Sampling of Populations; Methods and Applications (now in its 4th edition). In 2003, Dr. Lemeshow was awarded the Wiley Lifetime Award. He has taught more than 100 short courses on biostatistical methods in the USA and abroad, including nine European countries, Australia, China and India.
He earned his PhD in biostatistics at the University of California, Los Angeles, and his master’s degree in biostatistics at the University of North Carolina. He served as Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Massachusetts between 1976 and 1999.
Since his arrival at The Ohio State University in 1999, he has served as Professor of Biostatistics, Director of the Center for Biostatistics, Director of the Biostatistics Core of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and was founding Dean of the College of Public Health, serving in that capacity for 10 years (between 2003 and 2013). In April of 2006 he was inducted into the UCLA School of Public Health Alumni Hall of Fame. In 2003 Dr. Lemeshow was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and was selected Distinguished Graduate Alumnus (Biostatistics) by the University of North Carolina Graduate School Centennial. In 1995, Dr. Lemeshow was elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and was awarded the Statistics Section Award of the American Public Health Association.
