David trained as a musicologist, specialising in music history, and has spent the 20 years since his degrees working on digital humanities research, looking at ways to help publish, explore and disseminate humanities data and research. He currently divides his time between teaching computer science (at Goldsmiths, University of London) and research (at the University of Oxford e-Research Centre within the Department of Engineering Science).
