Dr Tess Howes is an academic at La Trobe Business School Sydney and a sessional academic at Macquarie Business School, having completed her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Strategic Planning at Sydney University in 2015. Her research focus is leadership and strategic planning in the Australian university sector, informed by years of strategic management experience at three Australian universities: The University of Technology, Sydney; Sydney University and Macquarie University. Recent publications include Howes T (ed) Strategic leadership conversations Australian universities 1980-2020 (2020, in press) and Howes, T. (2018) “Strategic planning in universities - how good are we and how do we know?” Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management, Vol 40 (5), pp.442-457. Teaching areas of expertise include leadership, communication, strategic management and organisational behaviour. She is also an Executive MasterCoach (Leadership) with her own private coaching and consultancy practice and a Director of a life story writing business.
