Bio

Hi, I'm Dr. Bunmi Ogungbe. I am an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and my work focuses on improving cardiovascular outcomes in many communities worldwide through clinical trials and implementation science methods. My team and I develop community-based interventions to help people prevent and manage cardiovascular disease, particularly in communities facing the greatest barriers to care. That has led me to some exciting places: running Food is Medicine programs that pair personalized dietitian coaching with produce prescriptions, training beauty stylists as Heart Health Stylists to deliver blood pressure support in salons, and building AI-powered mobile health tools. I am also the founder of Leira Health, a startup developing a heart-health companion app to deliver high-quality cardiovascular support to people who need it most. The common thread across everything I do is meeting people where they are, in their communities, their real lives, and helping them build lasting skills and confidence for a healthier heart. That is exactly what this course is about, and I am excited to be on this journey with you.
