In this final course in the ‘Coding with AI’ specialization, we’ll close with an integrated approach to building full applications with a working Data Model, View (UI), and set of Controllers (or ‘algorithms’). As an MBA or generalist, this course will specifically help you go from design to code with ‘Data Models’, which generally means databases of some kind. Understanding the process of building and maintaining Data Models with AI will both help you build great products yourself as well as make yourself a better collaborator to your engineering-focused colleagues. We’ll be a noSQL database, but mostly we’ll be focused on the underlying design and engineering principles for building and operating Data Models. In this final course, we’ll also cover the Cursor application, an AI-forward IDE (integrated development environment). This course was developed at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and is taught by top-ranked faculty.

There are 4 modules in this course
This week, Data Models! You’ll be both learning how to work with Data Models and how to incorporate a BaaS (backend-as-a-service) into your code. You may have heard of API’s and SDK’s, you’ll be getting hands-on practice with those as well. (Please note that if you audit this course, only the first module is available and you will not earn a course certificate.)

You’ve learned how to use AI’s to help you code- now you’re going to learn how to code the AI’s themselves! The good news is that foundation model providers like chatGPT’s OpenAI have made doing so easy and accessible. The other good news is that the process you’ve already learned will help you set clear intentions, not get lost in the weeds, and create testable sources of value for your user. You’ll also learn how the AI tools you’re about to use fit into the larger ecosystem of AI infrastructure.

Time to create your own Data Models! This week, we’re going to bring your MVC realization capabilities fully online. You’ll learn how to unpack Data Models, evaluate alternative database engines, and iteratively code, test, and debug both the integrity and the security of your data model implementation.

This is it! We’re going to send you on your way building and deploying like a professional developer. This means getting comfortable with version control and a more sophisticated IDE (integrated development environment). At this point, however, we think you’ll find these a natural fit for what you’ve probably been wanting but maybe didn’t yet know you need.
