Although I enjoyed reading through the Principles of Distributed Computing, I feel that the enjoyment stopped there, and that the course material is not particularly enlightening. Video lectures only cover some small parts of the whole material, and not necessarily the most interesting or important. The book the course is based on is good but also quite technical, and feels like the course puts together some cherry picked paragraphs from the book rather than providing wider conceptual foundations. Lastly, the questions in the final assignments, although somewhat thought provoking, feel also quite unrelated from both the reading assignments and the video lectures, leaving me with the feeling of a course not as curated as it could have been.
This course is far from ideal, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The format feels outdated, resembling a traditional classroom approach that doesn’t align well with modern learning styles. If you're taking it for free, it might be passable, but it's not worth paying for. There are better options available.
