There are 4 modules in this course

Every organization runs more systems than anyone can list from memory. Reading an unfamiliar environment is the first real task of the systems administrator role. This module builds foundational IT asset management and inventory skills for systems administration, IT operations, help desk, and infrastructure support staff working across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. Learners define an asset, an asset owner, and a scope boundary. They compare discovery methods and the blind spot each one carries. They build a six-column inventory register that records the source and date of every row. The module connects everyday IT documentation practice to the standards and frameworks that govern asset inventory and configuration management — the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO/IEC 27002, and the configuration items ITIL holds in a configuration management database — and to the audit findings that show what an incomplete inventory costs. Learners leave able to hand an unfamiliar estate back as a register someone else can check, rather than a guess someone else must trust.

A user reports that an internal site will not load, while monitoring shows its service is running. Both reports can be accurate. This module teaches learners to check the connection between clients and services in on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. They distinguish a host from the services it runs, then examine IP addresses, ports and protocols, name resolution, firewall rules, network zones, and the client-server exchange. They compare four accounts of one warehouse failure and map a small Windows and Linux environment: which client uses which name to reach which service, over which port, and what permits or blocks the connection. Learners produce a connectivity record that identifies each checked condition and any unresolved gap. This helps an administrator explain a failure to colleagues and document the paths needed for operations and audit.

A colleague sends one line of text and asks for the output. Nothing comes back, and there is no way to tell whether the system is healthy, the command failed, or the shell was standing in the wrong place. This module builds command-line fundamentals and terminal fluency for systems administration, IT operations, help desk, technical support, and infrastructure staff working across Linux and Windows environments. It covers shell basics and the command-line interface, filesystem navigation and directory structure, and how file paths resolve against the working directory. It covers running core commands and reading their output, and finding command help and documentation on both the Bash shell and PowerShell. Learners hear four roles describe one incident in four incompatible but honest ways, then answer three questions at a real shell — where am I, what is here, what does this command do — and record the answers the way an operator reports them. They finish able to sit down at an unfamiliar system and make it describe itself, and to hand back a result someone else can re-run and trust.

Provisioning a cloud server and reaching it securely is an early task for new operators. This module teaches learners to choose an account that permits the required services, set up a resource group and network, create an individual SSH key pair, and then create and reach a virtual machine. Learners distinguish the public key from the private key and explain why the credential must exist before the instance is created. They also record every resource, its owner, its purpose, and its planned end date when it is created. By the end, learners can bring up a host that one identified person can reach and provide a record another operator could use to account for the resources.
