There are 5 modules in this course

Stepping into a leadership role is both exciting and disorienting. The transition from individual contributor to leader requires more than new responsibilities — it requires a shift in how you think about your work, your impact, and your own development. In this module, you'll explore that transition through the experiences of emerging leaders and executives who have navigated it themselves. You'll examine the emotions and challenges that typically accompany new leadership responsibility, and begin identifying the strengths and development areas that will shape your own path forward. You'll also step into the role of Gonzalo Muñoz, a rising leader tasked with launching a new initiative and leading a diverse team. Through applied exercises and a role play, you'll practice preparing for a leadership assignment, setting objectives, and establishing the conditions for your team to succeed. By the end of the module, you'll have a clearer picture of what the leadership transition actually demands — and practical tools for taking charge with intention.

Leadership requires more than technical expertise. As responsibility grows, the work shifts — from doing things yourself to creating the conditions that enable others to succeed. In this module, you'll explore what that shift actually looks like in practice. You'll examine the challenges that emerge in the transition from individual contributor to leader, and learn the core tools leaders use to mobilize and support others. Through faculty insights, leader experiences, and applied exercises, you'll develop a clearer understanding of what leaders actually do — and how that work differs from what brought them into leadership in the first place.

Leadership growth rarely happens when everything feels comfortable. It tends to occur when leaders take on unfamiliar challenges, operate outside their expertise, and navigate situations they aren't fully prepared for. In this module, you'll explore the personal side of leadership development through the experiences of emerging leaders and executives who faced significant stretch assignments. Through the story of Mia Mends and her transition to a leadership role in Latin America, you'll examine how self-awareness, resilience, and a genuine willingness to learn shape leadership effectiveness over time. You'll apply the worse-before-better framework to your own development, explore the emotional realities of growth, and identify practical ways to keep moving forward. By the end, you'll have a deeper understanding of how leadership development actually works — and a clearer plan for continuing your own.

Leadership is fundamentally relational. No matter how strong your expertise, judgment, or intentions, your ability to achieve results depends on your ability to work effectively with people. That means building trust, understanding different perspectives, navigating conflict, and creating the conditions for genuine collaboration. In this module, you'll explore emotional intelligence as a foundation for that work. You'll examine the role of self-awareness, empathy, and relationship management in building credibility and strengthening how you work with others. You'll also explore how leaders influence without authority, navigate difficult conversations, and create environments where people can contribute their best. Through reflection and applied practice, you'll assess your own leadership impact and identify specific opportunities to strengthen the relationships that matter most to your effectiveness.
